John Bowman (Horse show. Born, Toronto, Ont., July 20, 1875; died, New York, NY, Oct. 28, 1931.) Head of a nationally-known chain, John McEntee Bowman was also a significant figure in equine activities. Bowman was president of the Biltmore Hotel chain that not only operated hotels in all major U.S. cities but also built such resort-style facilities as the Westchester Biltmore (now the Westchester Country Club), where activities such as golf, swimming, riding, and tennis were encouraged. He was also president of the National Horse Show Association and the United Hunts, which conducted steeplechase racing on turf courses at New York racetracks.
